No dipped beam? Here's a quick CEM test trick
The P/S dipped beam on my S40 had finally gone from intermittent to dead and so, from reading on here, I assumed it was going to be the CEM (which it was).
Getting to the unit is easy, but when I stripped it down to see if there was any 'obvious' damage I couldn't see any (I know, the relay is in its own cover but there's a pic on here of a fried cover so I wanted to check). Anyhow, I decided to go with a 'trick' I'd read on here in an old post - so I plugged the board back in without its top plastic cover, reconnected the battery and switched on the lights. Nothing! Then I tried the trick ... tap the back of the relay a few times ... Bingo! Both dipped beams! So, I've confirmed the relay is u/s and by leaving the trim off until I've got the new'un in I can apply the same 'trick' if needed until then. FWIW it did go off again later but a tap brought it back. This might be a useful quick test for others before they start diving everywhere with voltage meters. (The same technique used to work for the relays on 740's and 940's, but they're a lot easier to get to!) HTH P.S. Here's a pic I pulled from a previous post with the 5 relays named by function. As you can see the fog light relays are not in this unit.
