Default Lamda sensor saga ideas?

Thanks to all the help on the Forum I got the correct Lamda sensor and have just fitted it. Reset system with number 1 fuse and went for test drive. Lambda light came on and whilst car is improved it still chugs a bit on acceleration. Any ideas?

Plugs, leads, dizzy cap, rotor arm, blocked cat, blocked exhaust, boost/wastegate problems, blocked air filter, faulty/leaky fuel pressure regulator, blocked breathers, broken or disconnected vacuum hoses.

Could be any of the above or something else such as condensation in the tank.

Really need a better description of the fault, when it happens, cold, hot or all the time, does it misfire at idle, does the fault disappear if you floor the throttle, is it only between certain engine or road speeds and any other information you can give, no matter how insignificant it may seem.

Will be going for a long test drive tomorrow so will note all you ask. I have an MBC and suspect overboost might be the problem from what you have suggested. I will wind it back prior to my outing. Brief history. A new clutgh was fitted by a so called mechanic friend of a friend. He took the engine out fitted the clutch ok but made a pigs ear of replaceing the engine and reconnecting everything. I will not bore you with everything that I have now corrected. But the car was returned with the Lambda light on. I discovered he had rerouted the wireing from the sensor and the wires were catching on the steering column joit and had pulled out one wire and stretched another. I managed to reconnect the wires to the sensor. The car ran smoothly but with the lamp on and down on power.Even passed MOT in that state. Then discovered the MBC had been tightened right up causing the interior spring to deform. Repaired ok but adjusted and instead of resetting it correctly just gauged adjustment on what I thought correct. Have just finnished some other major work includeing new exhaust and cat plus as it turns out replaceing the sensor with an incorrect one. The correct one is now fitted. Thanks

The lambda warning light covers a number of fuel and ignition related issues and is not just to do with the oxygen sensor. You really need to pull the codes to help you diagnose the problem. How you do this will depend on the model year. Older cars have a self-contained diagnostic probe under the bonet. Later cars use an OBD-like socket in the driver's arm rest. There is a lot of information in the FAQ about how to do this and interpret the results.

If you have the little flashy box under the bonnet getting the codes is much easier, but if you have the "obd port" in the centre console you need to make a specific code reader, there are instructions on here to make it, I normal code reader will not do anything as they 940 was never obd2 compliant.

Personally I would take off the boost controller, to eliminate any issues caused by it and go every connection that you can, after that your "mate" needs a slap.

chugging and lambda on? Check for a head gasket coolant leak. If coolant is entering the cylinder(s) it clouds the lambda sensor...
