I'd detest to having to constantly "wipe arse"!

Part of the reason I want to keep mine on! (Along with potentially more stringent MOT testing and of course the environment to an extent).

I've seen an old thread on T5D5 of Shark's testing of the D5244T13 engine with the DPF still on and the figures they're achieving on a stock car are immense and somewhat out of line to the two off the shelf maps they're currently offering - these remaps are obviously tailored for protection of transmission components which is fair enough.
But I would like a bit more power and I'm really not inclined to be taking my DPF off just yet to be honest.

I like Shark and would 100% go back to them but I've now twice asked about stage 2 and I've been told that "DPF delete and high flow air filter" are the requirements.

The thing is both MTE and RICA offer maps with more power for stock engines but I've heard RICA horror stories and just you try and get hold of an MTE map...
yes, I work in a garage that is a RICA agent, I feel like other companies are spreading rumors... We've had one weird issue with a RICA map and that was on a rare T6, the car knew the software had been modified, nothing bad happened, but now and then an error would pop up, VIDA stated the car had detected software wasn't standard, didn't effect the performance, just engine system service message would appear once a month or so.

Now we've only ever had one T5 auto box fail, and that was a low mileage car (under 40k) full dealer history all receipts, the only unusual thing was a shark remap, now we are not saying that caused the box to fail, but we've never really seen a T5 autobox fail in such a way, we've never seen any terminal failures on car's with RICA maps, not saying its linked, but its very unusual, but that does happen with cars, someone will be unlucky in a big way at somepoint.

I had the RICA sport map on a D5 for over 2 years, never had any issues with it, I personally would never remove the DPF and as a garage that does MOT's we are risking loosing our MOT ability if we offered it as a service, making cars illegal to drive on UK road is a strict no no for MOT test centres.

Strangely we have customers come in with these RICA horror stories, they never know anyone but have read on forums they are bad, I feel its more because they are expensive, RICA also claim to be the only tuning companies that has had engines with remaps tested and still conform to EU emissions, i'm not sure if that's true but its a claim on RICA's site https://www.rica.nl/Cleanerenvironment.html I imagine its a bit far fetched on anything other than the E-Power maps, but its an interesting claim.

I took the D5 with a sport map to the famous German toll road, I think that helped finish off the clutch, but an idiot behind the wheel who isn't used to track days managed to drive to Germany and back have a bit of a blast and come back on a totally standard car with just a set of cross climate tyres and a remap, if they were damaging engines I think that trip should of finished mine off.

I don't really believe there's a conspiracy from competitors to RICA in regards to what's happened with some people's cars but as far I understand - for the P2 platform D5s (S60/V70/etc) the original 'Sport' remap did cause problems with intercoolers and clutches/DMFs, perhaps it has been revised since but it was well documented on another Volvo forum that the map was very aggressive.

As I understand the intercoolers on the P1 platform D5s are not prone to these failures, clutches of course are a consumable so if you're gonna have a map capable of delivering 550nm quite handily and the car is over 100k miles it likely a matter of time before it starts to slip - but this depends entirely on the driver and how THEY deliver power.
I hear of too many people trying to floor diesels like petrol cars and quite simply put - low rev high torque delivery is fatal.

In any case perhaps it was an inflammatory statement from myself and I can understand you wanting to defend RICA's reputation, I've just become a little bit frustrated with the seeming lack of options for a car with a DPF.
But yes RICA's pricing does put put me off somewhat!
I may speak to the man they call Shem and see what he has to say...
