Interested in this Volvo in Dublin but could do with a second opinion.

If any Irish members are in the area and could help out (or recommend a mechanic) I would really appreciate it.

Default Update

Just an update on this...

Since that silver C30 came up for sale this one just came on the market too.

https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sal...-2007/16641791

This was imported from Northern Ireland in 2009 and has an impressive spec including high performance stereo, twin exhaust, winter pack, 18 inch wheels, etc. This spec is almost unheard of in Ireland where new cars are usually sold in the most basic form possible.

However, it does have a bit of a sketchy history since then and is being sold at a backyard type garage in Dublin. I got an ex-Volvo technician to check it out for me an he reasonably pleased with it for the price. It needs a timing belt change, one engine mount and discs/pads all round. The same guy quoted me 470 euro for the belt and about 400 each for the engine mount/brakes so 1300 euro altogether(1140 sterling) which is obviously a lot of money to spend on a ten year old car. However, my local indie says he will do the belt for 340 euro.

The dealer will knock 450 off the asking so I can get it for 2500, get the belt done for 340 and get the engine mount, brakes done over the next few months as I save the money. Sounds like a good deal?

Thanks it is a nice colour alright.

I was quoted 400 to do an engine mount which sounds excessive to me. Apparently this particular part can only be got off of Volvo, would this be true?

Sorry I wouldn't have a clue, I doubt you can only get it from Volvo .... there must be some aftermarket options.

Just did a quick google search and there are a few different options:

Thanks!

Although it doesn't state it in the ad this car also has Eibach lowering springs. I was wondering if this might make it a bit too harsh to be used as a daily driver?

I had Eibach lowering springs on mine, ride is still fine just a bit lower ... its the dampers that make a real difference. You will get less body roll which is good as the standard OEM coils make the ride sky high and prone to crack.

After many months of humming and hawing I finally bought a C30. It is a red 2.0d 2007 with full R-Design kit and extras (though not badged as r design). Also has xenon lights, winter pack, high performance audio and cd player. Got the timing belt done today just noticed a few other issues that will need attention.

Firstly there is a bit of a wobble in the steering at times, when braking hard you can visably see the wheel shake. The mechanic who looked at the car said it was probably a brake disc as all the discs and pads need changing. I have googled this issue and I hope it is a brake disc as some other potential issues look rather more serious.

Secondly the alarm goes off every time I use the fob to lock it but oddly enough when the car locks itself it doesnt go off. I presume there must be some sort of auto door lock feature that locks the doors but doesnt trigger the alarm whereas the key fob activates both?

Wish me luck with this rare beast!
