Yes mate... I think I should start this as a new thread (?) as I've moved onto ECU and removed it to look inside and check for corrosion and water ingress

Be interesting to know how you get on as i have a similar problem, Don't think it's the TCV's (only 2 on a 2.0D ) as I can hear the turbo spooling but just not getting full boost. oh and i've no dpf

I'm still trying to trace this fault. My car is stuck on the drive and has been for 4 weeks now. It drives but with a very rich mixture , smoke and no boost.
(this other thread details more about electrical fault hunt... https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=272294 ) Ive checked the 5v supplies from the ECU and they are all OK on a multimeter. Good continuity and no resistance from ECU connector to sensors that I can reach to test. In case the electrical fault is a red herring, I did a boost leak test and its air tight. I'm going to check the TCV activity on VIDA tomorrow. As the ECU is asking for boost as seen on VIDA during a drive, but its not being delivered. Also going to check the turbo actuator sensor and vane movement. If none of these show a solution I'm stumped 100%. I have a very clean, inside and out, 2005 V50 2.0D Sport with only 72k on the clock, a full MDSH and its going to have to be sold as a fixer or to a breaker. TCV issue
Hi all
I have just joined and i apologise in advance if this has been explained but i could not find the answer. I have a C30 with a D3 engine and i have noticed that it does not pull as well as it used to. I have physically checked the turbo and it is spinning freely and bearings feel fine. i have checked the actuator with a hand vac pump and it holds a vacuum and moves as i would expect. however i have noticed that it has vacuum at idle and through the rev range i have put a vac gauge on the vac line to the actuator and it has vacuum at idle and increases when the engine revs increase. I saw a video on how to test and it shows that at ~1000rpm it should not have vac at all. i have checked the supply voltage to the TCV and it changes state from ~5v at idle to ~1v at 2000rpm. so im thinking that the TCV is not switching correctly, causing the waste gate to be open all the time so loosing boost? not sure if that is how this works? I would be grateful for input on this before i spend £120 replacing it. many thanks for your time Dave |
