Question oil

Hello,

Does anyone know how much oil has to be in my car when I do an oil change with a filter?

Its a volvo S40 1.9D D4192T4 year of construction 2002

Someone who sells oil told me that there should be 6.3 liters in the engine

I think it should be 5.6 liters. It's what my Volvo V40 1.9 TD takes. I think that it has a D4192 T3 engine (year 2003).

I'm fairly sure the capacities are in the manual if I remember correctly.

When I changed oil and filter I only had 5 litres and that was enough to bring it up to about half way on the dipstick.

It isn't 6.3 litres so don't try and get that in there!

If you got the engine hot and let it drain over night then you might get near the figure in the manual.

Your best bet if you want to do it right is collect and measure how much comes out. Then put that much new oil back in.

This is what i found :

S40 1.9 D (75 kW) (2001 – 2002) D4192T4 5,6 / 0,9 l

so without filter 5,6

with filter 0.9

Totals: 6,5 Liters

I put in 6,3 because there's always still a litle bit of oil in the engine

Until the dipstick says maximum with the car on level ground, then start it up for a few seconds. turn it off. Check and top up.

Not difficult. Doesn't require the internet.

Took the words right out of my mouth Antz. It's the foolproof way and ensures you don't overfill, of course somebody will chime in at some point to tell you that it must be Volvo approved oil and put in by an approved expert down to the last millilitre 😉
Oh, I always go for a drive to get the engine up to temperature afterwards and check again after leaving it sat for 15 minutes.
