Default Chief Sitting Diesel

Good day and thank you for having a new member!

I’ve been looking into getting an old Volvo for a little while now and had my heart set on a 2.4 V70 petrol, however.

I’ve found any car that takes my fancy is literally on another continent in distance and I just don’t get the time to spend a whole day travelling to find out something is a pig. A very nice 2.5d S60 has come up very local, at a great price and in good condition. Problem is I now only drive about 50 miles per month. Does low mileage affect these VW engines? Car would be used at a weekend only covering around fifteen miles…

Cheers in advance for any advice

It never bothered mine. '99 V70, loved it. I admit, I did more miles than that most of the time but odd occasions it didn't do much.

Those engines did star-ship miles in transporter vans. I did nearly 200k in four years in one.

I loved mine!

Cheers matey, I didn’t think it would be too much issue but wanted to check- my only recent diesel experience is modern. It will get a run down to my dads in Cornwall which is a 500 mile round

That run will do it good! When I returned from our annual Devon trip , with a 1.5T caravan on the back, it was a different motor for a couple of weeks. They thrive on it!

Went and viewed and sealed the deal- felt solid as a rock and the auto on it was exceptionally smooth and timely. It’s really been cared for- my first Volvo

I drive a older volvo diesel it's a 940 TIC auto 1995 estate
It's got the D24 VW engine .had the car 21 years it's done 287000 miles now
.it had 50000 miles on it when I got it ..I'm only in stoke but get down to Stafford often..use good synthetic oil and Volvo oil filters or good non genuine do the air filter and fuel filter at correct service times .change coolant and use genuine vovo it's not expensive..keep brakes well maintained .your car will last as long as mine.!!!!!

The Diesel’s that don’t suffer round town running gladly are the ones with the particulate filters, they clog up. The older snot and sawdust diesels without all the Eco gumph on them will be fine on local running.
