Damage caused to chips can happen but they are designed to take the heat especially chips designed for automotive use. I re-soildered the whole board got it nice and hot to make sure they don't crack again and stuck it back in the car, no probs now for 9 months. Also a dry joint is not really about the colour, it's the fact that the joint has cracked. Clean it up with IPA and get a magnifing glass and have a look for a tiny crack normally round the whole circum' of the joint. Or just retouch all the joints, within reason, it'll be the connector ones that will have gone or the soleniod ones because of the vibration under use.

Smile Thank You

Mine has just started with intermitent ABS & Tracs light coming on.
Great to find this post. It has been most helpful.

I have got the ECU off and will take the lid off and solder tommorow.
Hopefully this will sort it out.

Thanks to all that contributed the information in this post.

Kevin, Just make sure you take the layer of silicon off over the joints before you do the soldering. DB

I need to get mine done aswell,

I have no experience with soldering, could anyone do it, or should I get someone to do it for me?

I just don't want to mess it up.
