Default clunking noise at rear

s40 when going over uneven ground or small potholes get annoying clunking noise maybe below 30mph any thoughts as it annoying the hell out off me, cant put my finger on it. had on ramp checked exhaust 70 % its not this

In my experience, clonking over bumps is almost always the drop links, these are the the things, connecting the anti roll bar to the rear lower arm, this is what they look like, and this is their placement on the car, and before the eagle eyed amongst you spot it, yes the upper rubbers on mine are absolutely terrible, I have new ones on their way.

2nd what Clarkey1984 says.

I've owned 3 x40's and the 1st two had this at the front and the latest has recently started making similar sounds from the rear.

done drop links on rear done front at same time be aswell but clunking still there but not as loud ???

The anti roll bar bushes are always worth checking, you'll also get a clunk with worn control arm bushes as well, but you can normally feel a sort of shuddering over bumps as well if it's control arms, my SE had completely dead control arm bushes, no idea if it was just missed or what, but it passed an MOT early on in my ownership like and had always made the same noise, so presumably they were well had it when I got the car, it did feather the rear tyres quite a bit though, that was probably why.
