XC70: Information - Vida dice

Hope this is the right section for this question.

Where can I buy this OBD unit and software?

I've seen some on ebay, likely knock offs, but don't know if they work.

Is an OEM unit available?

A guy I know sels "vida to go"
This consists of a remoded drive and the dice I believe it is £120 possibly plus post...

I can vouch for buying VIDA from CheshireD5, but as Reggit says postage may be an issue. Worth asking definitely.

I understand that the VIDA/DiCE units from CheshireD5 are first class but if he cannot ship to Oz or if it is way too expensive to do so, you can buy these things on ebay and with a bit of application and reading posts from others who have set them up you could do the job for about £50 for the VIDA/DiCE. You would be best served to run it on an old second hand laptop under Win 7 but you can run it under a virtual Win7 OS on any laptop. You need to read the sellers instructions very carefully, especially as they are often in somewhat broken English and also see what others have had to do to make the thing work. Having said that, I installed it on an old T420 ThinkPad and after a bit of a struggle made it work. The passing of Win7 doesn't make this any easier. The problems arise from the VIDA being clone-ware. You cannot buy the real thing for sensible money!

There is a guy from Oz enquiring about delivery.......don't know if it would be cheaper to have them shipped together to one of you ? Then posted on in Oz ?

£115GBP for the VCX tool delivered to Australia and I've sent several over there.
I can provide the software and installation instructions as downloads so your laptop will be configured in time for the arrival of the VCX and it will be plug and play when you receive it.

Thanks for the replies all.

There are a number of knock offs available, mainly coming out of China, from A$100 (~£55) upwards, but it appears from what I've read that they only work with Win 7 PRO running IE9.

All I have that's transportable is a Windows 10 tablet

. Don't know if it can be set up in virtual mode so don't know if it'll work. I'll have to mess around with it to test it.

Any tips would be appreciated.

No matter the price, if I can't install and use it, what's the point.

Most of us that use vida have an old laptop dedicated for that job. It’s as important as having some decent spanners these days!
It needs W7 pro or ultimate with 4Gb RAM to run.
