Actually, it's a poor reflection on the government. EVs have been coming for a few years now, together with the government banning the sale of petrol cars by 2030. A proactive government would have ensured adequate electricity availability, but;
There is an urgent need to invest in low-carbon infrastructure in the UK as much of the current electricity generation capacity will close by 2030, including a substantial amount of the UK’s nuclear sites.
No government (apart from local government in Manchester and Liverpool) gives a flying whatsit about anything not outside the M25. Virtually ALL transport policy is aimed at the urbanista.

That is a bit harsh Dippydog. I'm a southern boy (Hampshire Hog) although I live in the Midlands now. I don't think I'd particularly care any more or any less about any part of the United Kingdom - I've lived all over the place and found good folk (and bad) wherever I've been. I think most folk are much the same.

Seconded.

I suspect that the media are the main proponents of the north-south divide.

Perhaps politicians are guilty of preferentially treating the south, but there are only a few hundred of them compared to the millions of straightforward human beings.

Please take people as you find them.

I'm not normally a conspiracy theorist, but 'Sotosound's remarks regarding a North - South divide do have more than a ring of truth about them. Enough, I think, to beg the question is this a deliberate ploy on the part of the media for it's own purposes?

I whole-heartedly agree that the vast majority of folk are decent human beings. As always, it is the minority that fall short who spoil things for the silent majority who are.

Regards, John.

I managed to fill the car up at Tesco on the way home from work this morning, all four local petrol stations have some fuel, oddly they only seem to have the premium E5 unleaded, is that because the panickers have bought all of the E10 or because the profit margin is better on E5? Hmmm.

Checking back in from Scotland, it got worse sadly

It does seem to be genuine delivery issues - as an example, BP in Pitlochry, where I got Ultimate on Monday, was down to just E10 and only in one pump on Tuesday night. Wednesday night the situation was unchanged - one pump, only E10. So no panic buying evident or we can presume that would have gone (and indeed the forecourt was empty on both occasions). On Thursday, it had finally run out, no unleaded but still both grades of diesel. I've also seen some other closed forecourts now, all BP and Esso. When I was in Fort William on Tuesday, BP had no unleaded and Esso only had E10 with a £35 spend limit.

Generally it's been OK throughout the Highlands though - as I say, no panic buying evident, no queues, empty forecourts, just closed pumps so I'd say there's a genuine supply chain issue but no muppets this far north. Sadly it's Scottish school holidays next week so I do wonder if it might get worse with people filling up to go away and new people arriving.

The car's been back on E10 all week then but last night I managed to get 30 litres of Jet Ultra E5/97 RON so the mix is improving again.

Opposite for me. Haven’t been able to get premium anywhere. And only the one station around has had standard petrol. Though I’ve been pleasantly surprised how the standard petrol doesn’t seem to have had any meaningful impact on engine performance or refinement. Though I haven’t compared mpg between the two.

For over two weeks these panic buying muppets have been causing this disruption…. Or something else is going on… 🤫

I rather suppose this issue has died a death everywhere now.

This morn I had to go to a local Morrison's store to get Bob's liver, chicken and heart (he is a well fed dog) and on the way out I dropped in to the gas station next door. I had not bought any diesel since this 'crisis' started a fortnight ago (the Skoda does about 650 miles on a tankful). I was pleasantly unsurprised to find no queue whatsoever (in fact only one other vehicle at the pumps) and both gas and diesel available.

So, it seems that we have been to Armageddon and back to normality in a fortnight: ho hum.

No diesel at my local. Super and E10 available. No queues.

I am noticing that the prices are generally staying very high.

Better than it was. Still not there yet though. Only took having to get the army in. What happens when the extra 100 army drivers are taken off..?

Do you still believe that two and a half weeks later, even with the army delivering fuel, this is still all down to panic buying out of interest..?
