They certainly are the injector holes which have been blocked off.
Is it a later 8 bolt crank engine?

Is there a benefit to using an injection head?
I will have a look. I take it you mean 8 bolts in the flywheel? Is there any other advantages to the later engines?

Injection heads have bigger valves. That might sound a good idea but the rest of the engine, carbs, CR and cam etc, has to be able to work with them.
8 bolt cranks used different rods, from the B21 ohc engine, and I believe went metric. Different pistons due to changes to small ends?
Better? Maybe, if you're going to spend LOTS of money on it.

Later 8 bolt engine has stronger con rods and a lot beefier main bearing caps. It is a good basis for further tuning work. Also is possible to go for a 2100cc re-bore using B21 pistons. The engine i got hold of had neoprene front and rear crank seals. I dont know if someone had fitted modified housings and seals in the past or if they became standard on the B20 after 1974?

Surely if you were looking at big power you would replace the bottom end with all new steel components. Tried to check the crank yesterday but need to get the clutch off first and didn't get time yesterday.
Anyone know about offset grinding the crank to get a 2.3ltr?

Spare engine is standard and not 8 bolt. Been stripping body panels and making a 340 alternator fit this weekend. Pics to follow.

What is the best distributor to have? I have the b18d one at the moment. The one without the vacuum advance. Is this any good?

Car is now drivable although the body work still needs sorting.

The 123 Ignition distributor is excellent. Its an all electronic device with a number of different advance curves built in. No points to worry about. Amazon Cars sell it with their own curve programmed in. I was running one until i swapped to distributorless ignition.

I have a 123 Ignition distributor (on my Stag rather than on my Volvo) and am a bit frustrated that to change curves I have to remove the distributor as the selector is underneath rather than accesable. I might be missing something but if not then it's a bit irritating after the cost. Otherwise great.
