P1800es Delores 1972 Blue
Since getting my beautiful P1800es ( affectionally known as Delores) in May 2021 she will already have become familiar to some interested members because of her introduction to the site by my friend Alan ( VOC member ‘Othen’ ).
In fact it was Alan that first spotted Delores for sale and bought her to my attention, as he knew I had always had a desire to own a P1800. It was only a few days after this that Alan and I were on our way to bring her to her new home. Delores wasn’t my first dalliance into classic cars; the previous year I had bought a very nice white TR6 but this car has never given me the same feeling and joy that I have for Delores. I feel more at home with Volvos and have had several different models over the years and for me the beautiful, stylish lines of the P1800 had always seemed desirable but until now very impractical. Delores was in a relatively good condition upon purchase but as with all fifty year old cars has required several minor maintenance and cosmetic improvements, the worst being a considerable oil leak. I will not repeat here all that has been done for her, as Alan has written this up in a far more detailed and eloquent way that I am capable and it would only be duplicitous. Needless to say I am very grateful for all of his help and support. She brings joy and catches the eye every time she goes out. A few photos are posted, which I hope you will enjoy seeing. https://share.icloud.com/photos/0c3A...sUmLQdJMwayzvQ https://share.icloud.com/photos/0c75...4Ib6pVkWxhJEBg https://share.icloud.com/photos/006M...3UTnNdXiHhesvw This is after her first ride out of the New Year and being washed and put back to bed! |

I understand you commissioned David Bailey to take those photos for you - they came out very well. It may be worth using a hosting site (such as ingur.com) for your photographs, that would enable you to display them directly into your posts or as attachments. This may help:

Thank you for that useful information Alan, I’ll give it a try.
I’m sure there there will be many more things that I need help and advice on. I appreciate your help. Looking forward to hearing how the brake changing turns on on GAM. |

Welcome, 'Snow White'. I look forward to reading much more about Delores' adventures in these pages. What about making a public debut at the VOC National at Stratford in June? If you can only make the one day, I would recommend Sunday (26th) - you and Delores would be in great company! Regards, John.

Aerial angle
When I next take a photo I will
make sure Delores is looking at her best with the aerial appropriately positioned- this was just a quick snap, before she went to back to bed. Thanks for the tip 😆 |

The reason the antenna lays flay is that Delores has never had a radio fitted (it still has that lovely delete plate) and to install one after 50 years would be a pity. I think SW uses a BT receiver to connect her cell phone and because it is not needed the antenna has always been tucked away flat. I do see your point though, the aerial might look better as an acute angle - perhaps flying a small pennant (Skull and crossbones/Donny Osmond Fan Club/Caravan Club...?).
:-)
