Gary, we have made 19T hybrids that don't require the downpipes changing.

If the turbo is as good as everyone claims it to be, it should provide superior performance to any 19T equipped car, no matter if it's RICA, TME, or whoever.

Adam.

Is your car an auto or manual?
I look forward to reading how you get on!

Boy this thread makes amusing reading! Remember I made a thread a while ago about doing your research...;)

Positive manifold pressure is positive manifold pressure. The only variations worthy of note are what volume of air the turbo can pump at that pressure (ie: 10psi on a 15G is not the same as 10psi on a 19T in terms of the volume of air your engine is breathing), the temperature of the air pumped by the turbo (small, 'overworked' turbos superheat the charge air), and probably most pertinently here...WHEN it makes boost.

I think the TT article was laden with a bit too much marketting BS for my liking (as Adam picked up on)...not that we could ever accuse the FWD Volvo tuning companies of that ;) I'd LOVE to hear the reasoning behind the 'no CBV or BOV needed' sentiment, as that's not what I've heard! Having said all of that, Turbo Technics are the masters, so we have to tread respectfully...

We're looking at two (fundamentally) very similar products here. I'd say that a 19T and this Garrett hybrid are pretty evenly matched in terms of performance *for what people here need*...ie: a mild upgrade for a daily driven car. Garretts have a reputation for being better built, but the 19T is probably cheaper (and is the Garrett a direct fit?). Personally, I'd probably get the 19T, as it's the known course, and for a DD, that's the order of the day. Having said that, good luck to anyone who wants to do any differently...it'd be very boring if everyone had a 19T and a RICA map, although I imagine it'd suit Adam just fine :)

I certainly see no need for the poorly informed (in places) squabble going on above!

cheers

James
(Soon to be the owner of a proper manly turbo ;)...the kind that's totally useless unless strapped to a race engine, so it'll be a door-stop :))

Not if it doesn't spool cos it's so huge it wont ;) :P Mine is going to be about the same size, but putting it anywhere near the B200 would be highly silly :)

cheers

Griz,

I know you are very attached to your turbo but have you started sleeping with it? In your picture it looks like it is on the duvet and has consumed a glass of wine!
