850 PCV Struggling!
Hi, I started on the PCV today. Going well until it came to the manifold bolts. Clearly my 1/2 inch drive universal ain't gonna fit! So I have bought a mini size one 3/8ths But still cannot get the socket squarely onto the nuts? If I give it some welly, I reckon I'll just round me nuts off!
Will keep on trying, but if anyone has any suggestions in the meantime........ I am following the how too threads on here

Don't give up. This is good info btw. Did you have to use the 3/8 extenders to get them off? I saw a cheap 3/8ths socket set in Homebase the other day and I thought, nah, I'll never need it. Let us know how you get on as I'll be doing mine soon.

Right, got a little further..... Manifold not off yet, but have stopped for the evening.
The under bolt on mine is a 10mm, not a 12mm. At present I do not seem to be able to lift the manifold off of those lower bolts, even though they are loose? On the left side of the manifold is a pipe, which I assume needs to come off. Not quite sure on how to though. Doe's it just pull off? ShadeTek, I had to buy a 30€ kit of bits and pieces, most of which I already have, just to get that 3/8th drive UJ! I used it on one bolt, but the extensions came in handy to extend the ones I already had. Working from the right. For the first bolt I was able to get my 10mm Rachet spanner on successfully. Second bolt, again using the rachet, but fed it in from under the manifold. Third needed the 3/8th drive UJ and an assortment of extensions. Kept slipping and began to round off the bolt. In the end I gently tapped the extension with a small hammer & that pushed the socket into place securely. Fourth, bolt (the one in the black hole of calcutter lol) I managed to get a straight extension bar with socket onto it, without needing to remove the top hose. Then extended it more until I could get a wrench on to 'crack' it. Once free I could spin it loose just using the extension bars.

Forgot to say, for the dip-stick bolt, I went under the car which is on ramps with a long extension, UJ and socket 1/2 inch stuff for this mind. Takes a bit of feeding in, but once onto the bolt the jobs a gooden

Paul I think I used 1/4 drive socket & extension plus an adaptor to 3/8 to fit to my 3/8 rachet mind you I also used the rachet spanner as well but I also have a selection of "C" shaped Snap-On ring spanners handy little blitters they are
The pipe you mention is it at the thermostat end of the manifold if yes on my V70 there are 3 small rubber hose in that area the do just pull of but be carefull the don't break as they could be fragile & brittle they fit onto a 3legged connector that is held on by a banjo bolt (17 or 19 mm IIRC) to the underside of the manifold. Hope this helps Jim

I have just noticed, on 'skinnys' how to of PCV in articles. His pic of the manifold when lifted out..... It show the left side propped up. His has not got the pipe that mine has? It has the 'disc' showing but mine hasca pipe coming out from the centre of that disc? Different model or year model?

Lol. I find with the gravel-ish drive my bits get easily lost, so my old pic-nic blanket is a must!
