Default S40 1.6D slow

My 5 year old S40 1.6D seems quite slow, not stupidly so, but it's not as quick as I expected it to be. I know it's all relative to what you're used to, but does anyone else find the 1.6D slow? I'm beginning to wish I'd gone for the 2.0D!

I had a 2.0D before my Drive 1.6. (109 hp)

To be honest, in most normal driving the 1.6 does not feel much different than the the 2.0.

It's only under certain conditions that the 2.0 shows what its got and this is more apprant with the powershift models than the manual car that I had.

Real difference between the two is economy. 1.6 is currently averaging 66mpg and my 2.0 averaged 51mpg over the 100k miles I had it.

The newer D2 engine does feel noticeably quicker than my 1.6, but as been mentioned on forums economy appears not to be good, and on the day that I had the D2, that feedback appears to be accurate as I could not get the car to run either smoothly at low revs or economically.

Perhaps in your case you've just used to the performance.

Check the turbo pipe isn't clogged. Mine was and the difference after they cleared it was huge.

hi proost

if your car feels a bit slow and seems to struggle then i had similar but with addition of white smoke. one of the elements at head gasket was cracked and thats it. suggest to get it checked out with someone who does not want to rip you off before you decide to do anything

forgot to mention, dont believe in story of dead injectors. Simple test, unplug one at the time and plug it back in and look how does your engine behave
