Default Worth using Gun Gum for an MOT?

My exhaust has a small leak because of corrosion around one of the seams, otherwise it's fine.

I know that a minor leak will still pass an MOT, not sure if this will - its probably 25mm x 2mm.

Because of it's location about the only thing I can do is plaster GunGum over it, but will that make it more or less likely to fail?

Depends on testers discretion in all honesty, some will pick at the filler to ascertain how bad it`s rotted, others might simply check for blowing and if it`s ok sign it off.
I keep my tame tester well fed, he does my car and my four bikes.

You will have to buy the Gum Gum and a bandage and still probably have to buy the new exhaust soon if not now.
Don't waste your money and time scrabbling about under the car, bite the bullet and have a replacemnt new part fitted. You will also save the retest cost. You know it makes sense.

I do, I do but unfortunately I'm struggling to find a replacement for the exhaust at a sensible price (it's the late 99 2.4 so different from most v70s) and all the rest of it seems fine.

Anyway I've done some scrabbling and rivetted a repair plate with gungum under it so we'll see what he says. Ttrying to drill through the silencer flange was a real pain, I blunted 3 new drill bits in the process so well done Volvo for making them out of a decent material !

Plug it with chemical metal - it holds on better than Gun Gum and looks like metal. Let it dry overnight engine off. Unless your tester has a VERY keen eye, he probably won't notice it on inspection.

Of course, it won't last any longer than gun gum as a repair but should give you some breathing room to find a cheaper pipe post-test!

Gun gum dissolves in contact with water so may not be deemed "A durable repair" as required by mot regs , A thin smear (2mm) of silicone sealant over the repair will waterproof the repair and in my honest opinion as a tester would be a durable repair

Tip of the day today is to slow the drill down so it bites into the material rather than spinning on the surface and going blunt due to overheating

Bummer, it passed . Again. :-(

After 13 years (11 with me), 190,000miles including 20,000 last year, got 2 teenage daughters through their tests, towed trailers and caravans around Europe, still on original clutch, exhaust and virtually everything else including aircon gas WHEN is it going to give up and allow me to justify buying a sleek modern Eurobox?????

Bad luck mate

I was talking with my neighbour a while back and he contrasted our attitudes to cars- I always look for a fix so I can keep my old car going, he prays for a fault so he can justify trading his car in for a new one (but then he is driving a mondeo at the moment).

I did invest in some cobalt drill bits recently, they cost substantially more than the standard HSS type but it's a whole new drilling experience. The Volvo exhaust will be made of stainless steel which is a lot harder to drill.
