Hiya,

I did this fix after I was seeing bad oil consumption and a puff of oily white smoke on accelerating gear changes.

After the fix, both the oil consumption and smoking are gone, and as a bonus I'm now getting better fuel consumtion too.

Neither the oil trap itself nor the breather tubes seemed to be really clogged in my case, though where the oil trap goes into the engine was pretty gunked up with black sludge. I cleaned that all out, obviously...

So I can't promise it'll fix what's wrong on yours, but it *did* have a pretty positive impact on my motor.

See jod t5's guide on this if you haven't already found it.

HTH, Pete

if the crankcase pressure is not getting out via the pcv system and re-combusted then amongst other things you are liable to rear main crankseal failure...the remedy for which is dropped subframe and gearbox out...
incidentally the excess pressure will not blow out of the exhaust, it will only be noticable from the oil cap and dipstick, other than the seal of course...lol

So...theres no way that excess crankcase pressure will push oil up past the rings?
Causing the oil to burn and therefore blow smoke?

That pressure has to go somewhere, and the rear main /cap/dipstick ,pcv
is its only escape....I find it hard to believe the pistons compression would allow oil into the cylinder...but remember...it creates its own vacume also,so its sucking oil up into the cylinder on a non firing stroke.....RIGHT???

of course if your oil ring is worn it will release some of the crankcase pressure...accepted but this will lead to other issues...

the piston may well cause a sucking effect on the crankcase area during its upward cycle but any suction stops at the bottom of the piston and the oil ring prevents any oil passing up to the combustion chamber....
