Red face creaky steering

Hello volvoteers,

My 460 2.0 L reg has a strange creaky knockedy noise coming from the steering rack area when I turn at about 0-10mph, it fades away at higher speeds and does'nt do it at all when the car is cold first thing in the morning. The tyres are at the right pressure and the power fluid is topped up. Any ideas? I have wd40'd some visible parts of the bottom of the steering column from inside the car in case it was a dry support bracket or something rubbing but its made no difference. It passed mot only 1500 miles ago so i guess its nothing balljointish or else they surely would have found it during the test.
Its not really a problem just an annoyance, the steering feels perfect and the tracking is spot on. thanks.

Hi there,

Possible dry/worn top shock mounts. My 480 does it a bit too. Bring something to sit on if you plan on going to the main dealer for replacements.

Good luck...
