My S40 Immobilization warning light goes on and off periodically while I am driving. Sometimes it stay on... can anyone share their insight as to what the problem may be and how to remedy it? Many Thanks.

As far as I am aware, any security issues (e.g. immobiliser etc) can only really be properly diagnosied and rectified by a Volvo dealer so if it persists, it may be worthwhile considering that.

I had a similar problem
Hi,
I had a similar problem a few weeks ago. Sometimes when I was driving, the immobiliser (car with a cross through it) light came on for a second or two. Also, the lambda light would flash at tick over and low revs. The problem was the battery earth lead. It was corroded where it joins the body just behind the battery. Dealer wanted £30 odd + vat for new one so I got one made at auto electrician's for £12. I initially tried leads from motor factors but these were too light duty and never solved the problem. My immobiliser problems were not totally cured, however, as the immobiliser was not providing the earth to the starter inhibitor relay when i tried to start it. This may have been the result of damage from the bad earth - not sure. I solved this by identifying the wire responsible with the aid of a Haynes manual wiring diagram. I then connected this wire to earth and disconnected the immobiliser. PROBLEM SOLVED! I now have no immobiliser, but the car starts and runs fine. I'm not sure why this works as I thought the immobiliser was linked to the ecu in some way, but the car starts fine. Hope this is of some help to you. I'd look at the earth lead first. It is a little awkward to get to, but is worth a look Gordon |
