Default V70 2.3 T5 starting fault

Hi twice now have had a problem starting my 2002 v70 T5. Car runs and drivers fine but twice now it wouldn’t start after I have parked it up with low fuel but no low fuel warning light on and it will not start the next time I use it. I put 5 litres of fuel in it and it will start. Any thoughts.

Default Low fuel

Volvos of this era are known for not wanting to start if you are low on fuel especially if you are on an incline. My s80 always had at least a quarter of a tank in to make sure it would start. Also stops crap being drawn out of the bottom of the fuel tank.

The swirl pot and pump unit and associated pipes . Its designed to work with just a gallon or less in there ,one of the rubber flap one way valves which keeps the swirl pot full is probably leaking ... resulting in the pot emptying when you turn the engine off with a low fuel level....

Thanks for info now I understand why it happens. So would that mean replacing the fuel pump unit or can it be repaired?
