Dension 500 optical cable layout
Hi
Trying to install a (secondhand) Dension 500 in my 2006 SE. I have it hooked up, radio works OK, I am getting a steady blue light on the extension unit (which I've read is a good sign!). But on selecting "CD" the display just shows for a couple of seconds, then goes blank. Pressing the "FM/MW" button brings the radio back on. The main thing I'm not clear on is the routing of the optic cables (despite having seen the various writeups and photos on this site). I found on the car, the light signal originally came out of the loom, through the head unit, the CDC and then back into the loom. My reading of the various instructions was that you switch things around so that the Denison "car side" effectively replaces the CDC in this chain, then both cables from the CDC attach to the Dension "CDC side". If I attempt a single diagram (no idea if this is going to work!) it looks like: Loom -> head unit -> dension car side -> loom dension cdc side ^ l l l l v cdc Is that right? In putting it together, I had to remove and replace plugs with two cables in from the larger adaptors, but not any single cables. Also, the instructions talk about attaching the cable from the Dension to another cable which goes to the CDC - do you need this, there seems to be no reason you can't just plug the first cable straight into it (and I'm not sure I have the right bit to connect cable to cable anyway) So any help very welcome please! Is my wiring of the optical cables wrong? Or any other suggestions ? Thanks! |

There are some very good instruction videos on youtube (also for xc90)
links are below part 1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPM1Sg9i0cg part 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Of5-dHJguc

Thanks - they are good, aren't they? I note he doesn't touch the optical cable into the head unit at all - essentially just takes the one out of the combi power-optical connector on the CDC and fits it into the cable that goes in series with the one to the Dension "car side". Then fits the other cable between the Dension "CDC side" and the combi plug on the CDC. So I think that means the Dension is indeed in the circuit with the head unit and car loom, while the CDC hangs off the Dension. Which I think is what I've done except I have the cable taken out of the CDC combi plug going direct into a plug on the Dension rather than via an extra cable in series with it. Anyone know if that extra cable serves any particular function?
