Default Does anyone know P1800 LPB 408K

I’m looking for a P1800 and found LPB 408k for sale with a dealer. Looks fantastic in video and the history seems very good. Looking forward to viewing it when lockdown over. In the meantime the dealer tells me that the previous owner was a regular at owners clubs events so I was wondering if anyone knows of this car?

Thanks
Simon

Just seen this for sale on ebay. Looks like a very tidy car and nicely restored. It's local to me so I may go check it out if I can find the time. I'll report back if I do

If you do get the chance to check it out I’d be very grateful, it’s 150 miles and 3+ hours for me each way. And my technical knowledge is limited......
Many thanks.

Will do. It's literally up the road from me, but time has been difficult this week.

There's a lot more photos of the car on their website. After looking at these there's a few things I would query. Pic 39 shows some serious bodyfiller on the sill. I wonder what's underneath it and how much more is on the car.

Also, the chrome strip down the side is really messing with my OCD. It's not lined up at all.

Looks like it's got new seat covers and carpet. The steering wheel is not correct for the car either and I'm not a fan of the bodycolour wheels.

Otherwise, it's nice. I like the colour combo, it looks pretty genuine and as though the previous owner has put some love into it.

Because the doors are not aligned/hung properly. Have a close look at the gaps around the doors. Could be just worn out hinges, or worse. Could be a sign of poorly done body work and / or body damage.

Lots of undercoating possibly hiding some rot?

Thanks both, starting to feel like it’s over-priced. Be really interested to hear how it seems in the flesh. Really grateful of the offer to look at. At that price what would you expect? Would it be close to concours or should I expect some rot to get sorted?
Thanks both

It's clearly had quite a comprehensive appearance restoration with new carpets and the front seats appear to have been re-coloured rather than re-upholstered. Paintwork looks fresh and well-coated, seams are visible at the sides of the rear valance. There does appear to be an excess of thick underseal around the rear floorpan area which possibly just covers some patch welding?

Like the OCD comments about the trim alignment, I too have a pet hate, it's when restorer's paint the fuel filler flap in body colour rather than satin black as they were originally. Thankfully this one has been done properly!

A few observations from the photos, nothing serious but after 20+ years of ES ownership I notice little things: The centre console lid is missing, the jack is not a correct 1800 one, the sill welded seams where they meet the inner sill/floorpan are very wavy, the plumbing for the heater control valve is poorly done and looks incorrect, the driver's interior door handle is fitted upside down.

That's my observations, so in addition to the incorrect steering wheel already commented on, yes, in my opinion the roadwheels look awful in white!!

Only a thorough examination, mechanical appraisal and road test will determine whether this really is worth the £19k asking price, keep us informed of what you find.

Ask for any restoration photos, details and who did the resto, see if they are reputable and give them a call about the car.

It's at a dealer so of course it's overpriced. He might expect to have a 25% profit margin at that price. If he bought it in "restored" he probably paid £13-14k. Might have spent a bit on a comprehensive valet unless he does that himself. Some of these high end dealers don't even have a lift for you to check the underneath of the car. It's always buyer beware. If you go there to check it out have a good look round the stock and the pricing before looking at the Volvo. Don't seem too keen!

Photo's 39, 41 and 42 don't inspire confidence. I'd be wanting to see pics of how it was before the body was painted.

I wouldn't touch it; it's not been done with any really care. I'd give it a couple of years and it will need doing again - properly.
