My GLT would barely do that , those Smiths speedos were a bit inaccurate :-)

Interesting reading this guys, I never got more than about 22-23 out of my 1983 1.4 Auto, although I only ever used it round town, and perhaps it was one of those Auto's that "never work properly" (hehehe). It was one of the reasons that I sold it in fact, I get better MPG from my 940 estate!

I am being tempted back to the world of 300's by this little beauty on e-bay thou.......

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CLASSIC-WHITE-...item230fdd0d20

I'll have to have a chat with the other half........

back to 900 land now, thanks for letting me pop in!

Those figures aren't at all bad for a vario used in town...

That 1.7 looks tidy. I don't like the (non-standard) wheel trims, and it's unusual to see such a low spec 1.7 (no rev counter, for example), but it looks very tidy, and that's what matters really. You can sort the rest out relatively easily if so motivated...

cheers

James

Pretty much standard spec for a '86/87 GL I'm afraid - it's identical to one my mother had. GL's of the early Mk3 variant only got tinted windows, heated seats, headlamp wash/wipe and a rear wiper over the base model. GLE's got the more exclusive stuff like metallic paint, electric windows and rev counters - the GL was a halfway house between the older Mk2 GL's and the newer Mk3 DL's.

The wheel trims look to me like those that came on the similarly aged 740 SE's.

Back from 900 land, I've brought my passport this time............

Sorry if I've steered this away from running costs to a discussion about trim levels! I think the wheel trims are early 740 ones, (looks like he's screwed them on somehow???) - although I quite like the look of them on this one. Many thanks for the comments on that car though, most helpful, but I think it is going to go over budget sadly.

So, given that my reason for getting a 340 would be to use as a "town car" what IS the most economical? I have to keep the 940 to move my partner and his wheelchair around, but it is a pain for popping to the shops on my own in........Any recommendations on year/model/roughly what to pay most welcome - although I realise that is a bit of a "how long is a piece of string" question!

Thanks in advance........my temporary visa has expired so back to 900 land again.
Graeme.

On the face of it this looks like a nice car but I'm certain the front valance lip has been painted black and possibly the sills too, so I'd be examining these with a fine toothcomb - because if the paint is covering up rust it doesn't warrant such a price premium

There's another tidy 1.7 on ebay right now. Looks pretty clean and honest condition.
