Default s60 gearbox trouble

Hi I have got a S60 D5 sports, 6 speed manual. The car will drive in first gear and set off, when I put it into 2nd or any other gear sometime sit will go and sometimes it won't. Has anyone got ant idea what it could be, thanks.

Can you select the next gear or will it "not go in"?
Try (WITH THE BRAKES ON) starting it up with the clutch in, starting it up in a gear that currently won't select, then slowly let the clutch out and see if you get a byte. If you do get some movement then the gearbox itself is fine, as are the selector mechanisms and the problem could be on the slave cylinder/clutch pressure plate as it's not releasing/letting you change.
