Default XC60 bulb ind signal failure

Hi all

I have a 2012 XC60 AWD D5 Auto and have just changed my caravan to a Swift Challenger 590 twin axle.

The tow bar is a detachable Volvo one with 13pin electrics

I have had two outings in the new van, first one covered a few hundred miles without problem.

I am now on my second trip, and within a few mile of hooking up I started to get a warning message, basically every time is brake it tells me I have a Bulb failure trailer ind signal.

If I brake and indicate at same time the indicators go double speed.

I have checked all the lights on both car and caravan and can see nothing wrong !!

I have seen a few posts on here commenting on same thing, but can't see a solution.

Can anyone help, as it driving me nuts!!

Regards

Geoff Williams

Hi Geoff

Seeing as this problem is affecting 2 circuits ( brake lights and indicators ) I would suspect you have a bad earth some were, can you see a difference in the lights on the caravan when you have both bake and indicator lights on ? you might see one set of lights are all flashing or may be a bit dimmer this would give you a place to start as the fault would be in that light or the wiring feeding it if both sides show the same fault then it may be in the plug or the socket / wiring in the car.

I agree with XC70Bob about a bad earth, I would look at a loose connection on pin 3 which is the earth return for all the road lights. I would start at the plug/socket then check the other end of the wire, i.e. earth connection in the car and the earths within the caravan.

A quick check is to turn lights on and hazzard warning on that the same time and see if the other light dim and brighten as the hazzards flash.
