'99 V70 XC Tow Bars!! Info req please

I am going round and round!!! Does any one know the definative answer!!

I am looking to put a tow bar on my V70xc, its the early '99 model, looked at lots of listings and they specify that various tow bars dont fit this model of V70!
Why not?

Is it just that the ride hight is an inch higher or so so the swan neck is a different profile to keep the tow ball the same height relative to the ground but all the mountings to the rear chassis of the car are the same?

If so is it possable to fit a tow bar designed for a regular V70 with the old fashioned two bolt flange but with a "dropper" plate to drop the flanged tow ball an inch or so to keep things the same height to the ground?, This is the style of bracket i wish to fit as i want to bolt a bracket to it to carry my trials motorbike.

It does seem that all the towbars for the V70 exclude the AWD and I assume that because of the rear drive that there must be differences in the chassis.

You may be stuck with a dealer only option. Or start searching scrap yards for one.

Mmmmm, just could do with chatting to someone that hax experience of both, think i need to get under a regular V70 myself and see what is the difference, got the chance of a bar off a V70 AWD which i reckon must have the same mountings but i think the ball will end up too high because of the increased ride hight of the xc. The story goes on!!, thanks fortaking the trouble to respond though/. Hope all is well in Brampton!!!

Wouldn,t bother messing about matey, shop around like i did. After pm you sent me i found pricing for bars, ive been quoted £120 ish take away for a fixed swan neck and about another £45 for twin electrics and isolator unit.
Dont forget towbars are now part of your MOT, and if not correct you,ll fail.

did you find out about the towbar 244t? i'm looking at buying a 1999 V70 xc and need a towbar for it and have come across the same problem that you did.

I had a 2000 model of same car and had same problem with towbar. In the end I had to buy one from local Volvo dealer. I even telephoned Brink in Holland but apparently Volvo put an embargo on sale other than through dealers. Barstewards!!
