XC90 (2023) <6k miles showing excessive paint marking
Good afternoon
I am new to this forum so thank you for letting me join. I am seeking some advice here. I have a T8 Ultimate Recharge (2023) in black metallic, done around 6k miles. I booked the car to be valeted as I was aware there was some tar marks on the lower doors, sills and rear bumper. However, the detailer brought me out to look at the car and it seems (on both sides), the car is showing XS paint marks (look like 000's of tiny paint chips) that you might expect to see on a car that had covered 80k miles or more. I only ever drive my car to and from work and occasionally use my wife's Mustang Mach-e, which has done about 4k miles on the same road (same journey). My son's car has dome similar miles to mine (he works in our business) and his car is unmarked. I am shocked and baffled as it looks like it needs repainting. Is this a paint issue (warranty)? Thanks in advance. Mark |

Your home looks like a fairly new build ? Has the car been parked/used when/where any construction work was being carried out ? Perhaps when your road (or similar) was being finished at the end of the developers construction ?

You'd think that might be the cause, but.....
we've been here for 7 years and the car is 8 months old. I've honestly never seen anything like, nor my detailer.... like me, he was shocked.

Yup, mud flaps would have prevented that.

Although mudflaps would have prevented that, yes, how many cars have them? I see very few.
If all those marks are paint damage, it's quite hard to see from a photo, that seems excessive. I doubt all XC90s that don't have mudflaps (which is most of them?) have that level of damage. Mine is 3 years old, has covered 30k miles, and doesn't have a mark in those areas. |

That's appalling, looks like a Tesla paint quality, I would be questioning that with Volvo.

Your alloys do protrude out a fair bit, could this be the reason why, how does this compare with your previous/other cars. I only have 235's on 19 inch alloys and could envisage straight away paint chipping would occur so fitted some mudflaps front and rear.

Are you 100% sure they are chips?
Ive seen similar effects on cars that have driven through some wet paint or other liquid that looks remarkably like chips. On the first picture the marks look a bit high up for stone chips. Not disputing, but it might be worth a quick wipe with some solvent such as white spirit to be sure before pursuing Volvo's paint warranty. |
