2003 XC90 'Gear selector reduce function' alert
Hi,
My 2003 XC90 has 'gear selector reduce function' alert today, I can shift gear to 'PRND + -' w/o problem, but there is NO gear indicated amber light. Dealer installed total new transmission on it less 1 year ago. This Volvo gives me so many troubles since I bought it 3-4 years ago. Any hints about it? Thanks in advanced. Susan |

If so, they are well known and documented on here as the transmission is right on the limit of the engine's power output. However, yours may not be that serious, as it could just be the selector module itself, as in this post: http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=162128 Just do a few searches for transmission failure. I think you might be lucky here, this error pertains to the electrics around the gear selector itself - not the gearbox. I suggest this as I got the same error myself today when I started the car with the park/neutral shift lock solenoid disconnected. The error remained even after the solenoid was reconnected, I had to clear it with VIDA.
Suggest you go to your dealer as the error codes may well tell you exactly what is wrong, as said I don't think it is the gearbox itself it's something to do with the gear lever. |

I will try to disconnect battery first, if it is still not there, maybe bring it to dealer for error code reading. |
