Default Diffs ..a bit of an odd question

OK..a bit of an odd question. I have a 66 P1800s. Would the diff from a 240 fit the car?. it seems about right in every respect .

I would expect (based on my experience with 240 gearboxes) that whilst in pictures they look quite similar the newer 240 version would turn out to be slightly beefier. I don't know for sure however...

I think the halfshafts would need to be changed due to the different splines. That could potentially lead to 240 or similar brakes which in turn would change the PCD so the fronts would need changing
The brakes on the 240 are probably dual cct so may need master cylinder, brake lines and caliper work

Ive always fancied fitting a lsd to my 67 but the benefit didnt seem worth the value.

I've read this somewhere Clive and I can't find the link now.

From memory, the 'inards' - is that even a word - will go in the housing of a late 1800E/ES but there's something to do with the halfshafts being different. From memory, 1800E/ES halfshafts are different from 1800S because of the disc brakes. But I think you can put 1800S halfshafts into 1800E/ES diff. However, I think 240 halfshafts are different again.

Not very helpful.

I seem to remember some machining of halfshafts.

Wish I could find the story now.

Well assuming the cage for the inner differential cogs is the same size then replacing those four little cogs wouldn't be especially difficult - but then again that sounds too easy if people have resorted to machining stuff (!)

Does not match teh half shafts

You can use a 240 diff in the E axles
