Default XC90 Radio/CD problem

We have a 2006 XC90 with the standard radio and 6CD autochanger ICM. The system has recently been exchanged after suffering a "deck error" fault and was working perfectly in another XC90.
Initially the CD system seems to work but quite randomly it goes blank after a few minutes or when the radio is selected. It can be made operational by unplugging the main lead into the ICM and then reinserting it, the system then starts up normally. I guess that there is some sort of heat protection system inside the CD autochanger that is faulty and is reset when the power is removed.
There are plenty of posts about deck errors and other ICM faults but not this one. Grateful for any suggestions or links.
Thanks
John

did you see the cd changer working in the other xc90?

I've recently purchased one a 2nd hand one from ebay, where the breakers yard in Ireland said it was fully functional. I was a tad slow replacing it so overshot on the 45 days paypal protection and yep, you've guessed it, it comes up with deck error. They sold me a dud. Worse still, on taking mine apart it even had one of their jammed cd's in it. And the barstewards won't take it back. grrr..£130 notes down the drain.

do you have another you could replace/test it with, or swop the electrics out of your old one into the new one? ie - just replace the mechanism over?

Default XC90 Radio/CD problem

Thanks for the response but we did check it worked ok in the donor car. The dealer is not a volvo specialist and swapped it with another car he had in stock. I try to avoid parts from ebay.

Is it possible the "MOST" security is locking out the ICM as it's not coded to the car?

Search “ICM diagnosis and repair.”
I had this on my old 2006 xc90.
Don’t take to dealer - they’ll just replace each of the audio components until ions works.

You’ll need to manually check functioning of each component until you find the faulty one.
Some people’s are the head unit (icm). Mine was the subwoofer which packed up.

My personal recommendation is to contact volvo diagnostics on the web. Lucas will give you sound advice and if necessary repair your ICM at a fixed price and guaranteed for life.

In my case the radio worked most of the time but sat nav and CD would often be AWOL.

He advertises a fixed ICM repair on eBay but ca n also repair most other modules..

I can only speak from my personal experience and recommendation of some far more experienced forum members than myself but suggest well worth a try..

Hope this helps

Default Radio issues

Have discovered my radio intermittently will not turn on , later in the day it will, all summer has been fine so seems to be down to humidity levels, first cold damp day this autumn and it would not turn on, drive a while and warm up the car then it’s fine. Not a power problem as display still shows it’s got power.
Park where it get early morning sun and it’s fine.

Hi,
My 2007 xc90 has the Dynaudio system but 1 CD CD player.
the disc was trapped inside, would not eject.
i removed it , take it apart, removed the CD, fixed the rubber roller that drives the disc in or out, put it back, job done.
Now it won't take any cd's in .

Sorry to hijack this post but looks like all things radio/CD related.

Just bought 20076 SE Sport XC 90 FM radio CD working fine, just tried to change channel to AM no sound!! Not sure if I've missed anything obvious before I delve deeper, is there a separate FM antenna somewhere? Thanks any help pointers gratefully received.
