Default Copy of Volvo instructions

Could someone please post a scan of the instructions included in the Volvo OEM replacement pads that reference the electronic parking brake. I'm planning on using aftermarket ceramic so I won't have the benefit of the Volvo instructions.

Thanks!

Thumbs up 2010 XC60 Rear Pad Replacement

I can also confirm that this method works. I first tried the Autel EST201 electronic brake tool and it didn't work for me. I kept getting linking errors. All you need is a T30 to remove the 2 screws holding the motor to the caliper and a T40 to unwind the E brake motor. Then use a regular brake tool to compress the caliper. Once you are finished, engage the E brake to reset and you are good to go. It was pretty simple and no special tools!

Default Polarity tip...

Just made my change last week. I used the battery method to unwind the electronic motor to save the trouble of disassembly. Really worked well, but one tip... as mentioned previously you just apply 12v in the reverse polarity however nobody mentioned how to tell which direction is correct. The connector has a round end and a flat end. In order to engage the brake, the (+) is applied to the flat end. To make the brake pad change and unwind the motor, the (-) is applied to the flat end.

One other tip, it takes a good while (20-25 seconds?) to fully retract the caliper with the motor. So just let it run until it stops moving and don't be concerned (like I was) that it's taking too long. Lots of revolutions!

Default Volvo XC60 Rear Brake Pad Renewal

Thanks to the Volvo Forum, I was able to work my way through this project. However, when it came to pushing the Calliper piston back into the full open position I was left scratching my head for a wee while. The solution turned out to be quite simple! After taking out the old pads. a) insert the new inside pad b) place the Calliper back in position c) then take two G Clamps and clamp them over the Calliper (position them over each the bolt hole) ... and then tighten them evenly. The piston is then in the full back piston. Fit the new outside pad, and get the Calliper back on ASAP, as the piston can begin to push out again. Fix back the bolts ... job done.

One question that is left unanswered? Great mention by the is made of the need to 'calibrate the brakes' by Online Volvo mechanics, and they seem to suggest that this can only be done with this specialist piece of kit that costs about the same price as a replacement set of brake pads. This has left me wondering, as my brake pedal is still a bit soft (could be that the pads are just wearing in)... or is it the lack of calibration?

Thanks to the members on his forum and its search search function a couple of years on, I have just changed the rear pads on my V60 by winding the callipers in by connecting a spare 12v battery and reversing the polarity on the motors connected to the callipers

Hi
i managed to do this job, i removed the motor as described but regardless of what i did I could not get the the piston to go back. In the end i had take the piston out wind the operating collar back by hand along the bolt then reassemble. This happened both sides, certainly not seized just would not retract. I even loosened the bleed nipple thinking it may be hydraulic back pressure, but no different. Once reasembled iI bled the brakes and all seems fine. Any ideas why neither piston would wind in as described.
Thanks
Andy
