Yeh it just goes to say that you can get good mpg out of these cars just by changing driving style. I get good mpg from my T5 as well just taking it easy, the problem is that the arguement you make to yourself reasoning why you should put your foot down tends to stand out more.

I don't think I've had an engine before with such a huge mpg range as I think booting it everywhere will bring low teens (or single figures??) yet it can return 40+ on a long, lazy run. But after that slooow journey on Sunday I think I'm due a few more spirited runs

Unfortunate, but wise to bin the tyre and get a new one.

Impressive mpg. The best I ever got from my S40 T5 was 41mpg. The only good thing about the UKs longest stretch of average speed cameras on the A9 to Inverness!
