New car - few questions
Hello all
Just collected a 2013 V40 D3 SE Nav. Have previously owned Volvos before deciding last year we needed a people carrier - big mistake! So, lovely car but a few trivial questions please: 1) TFT display - I can select between eco, performance or elegance theme but I thought it was possible to customise the colours rather than the standard blue, red or green? I heard the elegance theme was brown and fancied this colour. Perhaps this is for newer models? I should clarify that when selecting the pop-up menu via the left-hand stalk, the "colour" options appears but disappears when selecting "ok" (push button) with nothing occuring. 2) Ambient LED light - have seen the front led light (and option to elect different colour) but should there be a rear LED ambient light? Or is this only with the rear theatre option? 3) Car doesn't stop/start and the message in the control panel says this is not available and could be due to a low battery. The car has been sat in the forecourt but not sure how long. However, I have driven circa 100 miles today so isn't this sufficient to charge the battery after some time spent in the forecourt? Or does the stop/start uses a different battery? Thanks all. Last edited by civilservant; Jan 17th, 2015 at 18:49. |

Welcome
Cant answer you display question as I have an analogue display. I think the ambient lighting in the rear is an optional extra. Start/stop uses a second battery. it is possible that 100 miles was not sufficient to provide a full charge for the main battery and the Stop/start - depending upon what electrics you were using on the trip. However, if it does not start working soon I would get back to the dealer to sort it out.

Hi Civilservant,
Just collected a 2013 V40 D3 SE Nav. Red is performance, blue elegance and green eco. There aren't any options to change these apart from "contrast" mode. 2) Ambient LED light - have seen the front led light (and option to elect different colour) but should there be a rear LED ambient light? Or is this only with the rear theatre option? Yes, front ambient lighting only on lesser models, not sure if it is a cost option on all or some had it standard 3) Car doesn't stop/start and the message in the control panel says this is not available and could be due to a low battery. The car has been sat in the forecourt but not sure how long. However, I have driven circa 100 miles today so isn't this sufficient to charge the battery after some time spent in the forecourt? Or does the stop/start uses a different battery? Old Croc is correct about the second smaller battery, tucked down behind the bumper- Back to the dealer methinks too as it looks a right pain to change! Thanks all.[/QUOTE]

There has been some issues where the stop/start constantly 'thinks' the battery is low when it isn't. Believe some update addressed this. However I also get 'battery charging' on stop start on our Volvos, especially when they are not driven for elongated peiods of time, and even after 100 miles of driving, the message is still there. We sometimes simply leave the car ticking over if not used for a long time, to keep charges up. When they are used as normal, never an issue with the stop start not working. Also it may not be working because of the outside temp, and or what stuff you may be using in the car eg lights/heater etc Worth getting it checked out though. Regards |

Thanks all - very helpful.
Appreciate confirmation on the ambient light and colours on the TFT display. Tiff - "lesser models"...what a cheek! It may not be the lux model, but it has some optional extras that exceeded my expectations. As for the stop/start, the message in the settings suggest the option is not available. I have checked the manual and reviewed the list of reasons why this may not work, and the only logical explanation I have is the battery. I will telephone dealer and log the issue - quite surprised they didn't spot the problem when they prepped the vehicle this past week. Yes, they are an authorised Volvo dealership. It's a great car, but my only real concern is that it's a small car. But after having a V70 and a people carrier recently, my wife would only permit a smaller family car! |

with the display all you can change is contrast which does give the effect of slightly different colours .

Thanks Clan for the response. Ok, will sort it out with the dealers.
Funnily enough, when I select "contrast", nothing happens there either! Cheers for your expertise once again. |

Lol, I don't have it either- I was impressed by the specs too, but after a year I rarely bother with any of it. A gimmick IMO.

Mine took about 4 days and over 200 mile to charge the Stop go battery.
Purchased used with 250 miles on the clock. So could depend on how long it has been standing. Can also depend on how many thing you have on and outside temperature. |
