Default Oil rising workaround

Last week my wife's XC60 B4 indicated that it had too much oil. I immediately knew that it was a dpf regen issue. The car promptly went in to Clive Brook Huddersfield to 'resolve' the issue. Whilst I don't think that the current solution touted by Volvo is an ideal long term fix I did come across a polish YouTube video that may actually help. Essentially all that you have to do is set the trip computer to display instant fuel consumption. Once you do that, you should be able to see when a regen is occurring and you won't switch the engine off mid regen hopefully.

Easier to just keep an eye on the stop/start readiness symbol. In general if it shows unavailable during a long journey (line through it), a regen is taking place.

Wouldn't it be much better were Volvo to display a 'regen in progress' message. This issue has been going on for years and they stubbornly refuse to do so. Why?

I asked the very same question to the dealer! A little warning light would be the most logical solution.

I suspect that while it is an issue it probably affects only a minority of owners and Volvo don't want to spend the money to resolve it.

Or make the process actually work so that it doesn't cause this issue.

I am in a T5 so don't have this issue thankfully but have read many posts about it on here.

I spent 10 years driving big engined diesel Mercs and never once had any sort of issue from regen, and for a lot of that time I was driving short city centre commutes with a long drive maybe once a month. If Mercedes can create a region process that doesn't cause issues, why can't Volvo.

You didn't give details... what signals must i see on the trip computer when i choose instant fuel consumption?

Bump @volvolover question.

What indications are we looking for?

Default Regen.

Hi BroadwayBlueshirt,

I do not use this system myself, so here is the theory. During regeneration the car uses more fuel (this is injected on the exhaust stroke to burn and heat up the EGR unit, to burn up excess carbon) so you should be able the see a drop in the mpg figure.

Watching the stop/start icon seems a better way to monitor a regen.

Pete.
