bleeding 1991 240 non ABS front Girling 3 bleed screws
1991 Torslanda estate - front Girling (3 bleed screws) , rear ATE calipers
Having sorted out seized pistons on 3 wheels I am now filling and bleeding the system. Today, (before eventually checking the VOC detail on the website), I had tried the Haynes manual system and was unable to achieve any change in the pedal at all.(straight to the floor) I used the pedal and one way valve bleeder system and used a considerable amount of fluid. All joints are secure with no leakages Haynes manual is at odds with the VOC tech. on this subject. Haynes states LR , then LF upper, then RF upper, followed by..... RR, then FR(lower) 2 together, then LF (lower) 2 together VOC bleeding sequence states LR,RR,RF,LF - 3 nipple front calipers - all three nipples together I intend to use Gunson Eezi-Bleed next time and would appreciate any advice. many thanks Colin Ross |

RE: bleeding 1991 240 non ABS front Girling 3 bleed screws
It's too late to say it now, but you should never pump the pedal beyond the point it normally travels to. That causes the internal seals in the master cylinder to move over a section of bore that may well have deposits or corrosion, which invariably damages the seals. The result is a system that appears to have had all the air bled out of it, but still mysteriously has a soft pedal.
In my experience, be prepared to have to replace the MC. I have found with Easibleed that the sequence does not matter, as long as the new MC (if fitted) is bench-bled before fitting. I simply go round the car a wheel at a time bleeding all the nipples. It may take 2 goes. |

Many thanks for info- will try with existing master cylinder - if unsuccesful, will try and overhaul/re-seal the mc, failing that will have to buy a new one .
Again, many thanks |

Sorry, I wasn't trying to tell you you have inevitably damaged the MC, just that that seems to be a common cause of inexplicable soggy pedal syndrome after bleeding the brakes. I did it myself on 2 different cars before I read the explanation, so I have been ultra-cautious since.
Good luck. |
