Default Why to my injector leaks keep reoccuring?

The diesel specialists tightened up the bolts to my leaking injectors (minor leaks). The leaks reoccured so I tightened them up again. The leaks are back. Is this a sign of something wrong in the engine (pressure?), worn injectors, threads knackered on the bolts or just a common occurence on an old diesel? Thanks

(PS - I know I've posted lots of threads on my different engine problems but shes's not that bad, she raced around like a dream all day today, she seems to like the heat?, far less smoking, not my imagination, she seems to have high performance days and sluggish days?)

My leaks were caused by me being supplied the incorrect washers that fit between the injector and head thus combustion pressure was forcing fuel out around the join between the two halves of the body.
I would suggest taking the injectors out and fitting new washers and then torque'ing them back in again and see if that cures it.

Regards

Thank you, I'll do that. (I was pleased to find out that if our injectors fail we can get them reconditioned for as less as £10 each but if we had a newer common rail engine we'd be talking maybe hundreds each)

is it the injector rail leaking on the injector or the injector to engine
if its the rails i have a compleet set of 6 some where that i unbolted when i took a pump of a d24 tic engine
if its the pipes to the injectors you may find that the pipe flanges have gone out of shape

Hi Craig

I'll find out what it is. If I do what tfb says and if I still have a problem I'll check out what you say and if I need your rails, thanks, happy to give you something for them. Knowing this engine it's probably what you are both saying lol. I'm assuming now not to keep tightening them up as I could cause more problems? Thanks

Just a thought Laneystrider, how are the return links from injector to injector? These are the short links between injectors and if they leak can give rise to poor starting and /or fuel leaking everywhere.

All the best, Peter.

Thanks Peter, I'm learning...... will check.

Have to say I've got my other diesel, the Merc 307D camper and had a Peugeot diesel once and have not learned much about diesels due to both these engines just plodding on for ever with no problems whatsoever
My Merc engine did 263 thou before a rebuild, 143 now on this engine, no probs whatsoever but I am taken with the challenge of this D24tic

Thanks everybody, these diesel leaks, my brake problems (I believe 2 separate ones, servo plus other) and thermostat will be taking priority this week, trying to ignore my engine problem at the moment, I will be topping up my coolant daily but have vowed to stop watching the smoke in the wing mirror and pretend it's not there, lol....
