Stainless Braided Brake lines - real experiences
Guys
I can read all the marketing stuff I like ! I was just wondering what sort of real improvement people have noticed when installing these brake lines ? Mine are approaching the 100k mile mark, so could do with changing/inspecting ! I've already switched to DOT 5.1 which did help with initial feel. Thanks ! RE: Stainless Braided Brake lines - real experiences
Hi Chris, I had front SSBLs fitted at the last service and there is definately a more positive pedal feel. I feel that it is worth changing especially if you are at the 100k mark and you are going to renew the brake fluid anyway. Bearing in mind that SSBLs are not very expensive it's worth it for peace of mind.

Peace of mind - that's what I thought, until I found some Goodridge lines (on a Volvo) that had split!

Well my Goodridge lines have stayed in one piece and did give the more positive feel described elsewhere.
And of course, when you install the AP kit, you can sell your old SS lines... |

I didnt notice any improvement when I fitted ss lines and they are a real pain to fit as the old hoses seize solid to the rigid pipes. I'd recommend you just change the fluid for 5.1

Hi Chris,
can't say that I noticed any difference since having the s/steel lines. As Simon mentioned they arer a real PIA to fit.

I did feel an improvement in brake pedal feel but on its own, you may find that you could still end up cooking the pads or discs, in which case the SS lines may not help much.

RE: Stainless Braided Brake lines - real experiences
Couldnt the improvement some people feel from fitting ss hoses be due to changing the brake fluid and possibly bleeding some air out the system?
I personally found it to be one of those jobs once started I wished I hadnt bothered doing. If you do decide to fit them expect to have to cut the rigid brake lines and reflare them and count yourself lucky if you dont. Simon |
