Just be aware that only the larger keys have the emergency manual key within. This allows you to open the passenger door if the keyless system fails for any reason or the key fob battery is dead.

Opening the door with the manual key will set off the alarm. It can be cancelled by placing the key in one of the cup holders between the seats and turning the Start knob. I can't remember which cup holder it is but there's a symbol for it in the rubber mat at the bottom of the holder. Note too that placing the fob in the cup holder allows it to work even if its battery is dead.

If anyone's wife/partner has a their own key or carry a spare in their handbag, while a passenger, it is a timely reminder not to leave their handbag hidden in the car with the spare key in it while you both leave car and nip in somewhere.

Bear in mind the battery can NOT be changed so a new key will need to be ordered. So it's not intended for daily use.

Good point - but I have never needed to use a manual key to open a door in 10+ years of having keyless entry cars. However I have had to change fob batteries every now and then.

Good to know about the ability to put the fob in the cupholder though. That must be some kind of RFID tag in addition to the active 433M system.

:-) Warranty or Sale of Goods Act should sort that out!

Umm.. actually no:

A remote control key/Key Tag left in the car will be deactivated when the car is locked and the alarm is armed using another valid key.

Duff info off my dealer then.

Edit: just tried it with key inside and it is as you point out, car would not unlock, when I bought my car I asked if I could leave a key in the car when going to the beach and using the waterproof fob and was told never to do that as car could be opened. I never tried it until now.

So sorry for the misinformation. And thanks for pointing out my mistake and information.

I understand the battery lasts about 3 years, and so is out of warranty at that time. From other posts it seems that it takes a standard button battery, and can be cracked open, and replaced (Saving £60 unit cost and £100 coding cost). It's unlikely to be waterproof, but it's still a lot small smaller on my key ring that the normal battery.

I removed one from a big Key and put it into my purse. So if needed I have one but else use only the small key.
