Has anyone experienced the HK in the rear of an XC90 yet?

I have the standard system with the optional sub. Its pretty good in the front of the vehicle, particularly if the favour the front half of the car when you adjust the fade. But I find that as soon as I adjust the fade towards the centre to give equal sound to the rear passengers, the quality of the sound drops very quickly, it seems to loose all its body and become weak and flat. I assume the front speakers and bitter/better quality to the rear speakers.

I agree the charge for B&W is very steep, but overall I felt I'd negotiated a very good reduction on the vehicle's price so that helped justify the price to myself. Given I listen to a lot of music in my car, and enjoy good audio, it was an upgrade over the standard system that I definitely wanted.
The HK wasn't an option when I ordered my XC60 earlier this year, otherwise I would have considered it (my previous BMW had a good HK sound system, with the Logic7 surround sound being quite impressive playing 5.1 DVD audio).
Ideally it would be good to be able to test-drive each system one after the other and compare directly (NB I don't think testing when stationary much value - they all sound better without road noise, how well they cope with that is key).
I'm very impressed with the B&W system. On the right tracks the envelopment option sounds superb and has some great instrument placement around the car. My listening is typically FLAC files through USB, but the sound from Spotify on the "High" or "Extreme" quality setting is very good too.

What is the best method to store them then? Just in the root directory and let the ID tagging pick up the album etc?

I was going to organise it with each album (regardless of artist) having a unique folder:

- Root Directory
- Album 1
- Album 2
- Album 3
- Album 4

I simply copied mine from my PC in the usual Artist/Album/Track structure. It mostly works except on compilation albums with different artists where you can end up with multiple single entries for each artist.

I can't remember exactly but the issue can be partially alleviated on compilations by playing around with the artist and album-artist tags.

Sensus totally ignores the storage structure on a USB and uses only the tag info in each file to create an index.

I was listening to Amused to Death (Roger Walters) today in the car HK system, and the track "Three Wishes", I think that track is a real test for the bass of any system, it goes way lower than most systems can handle including a lot of decent home hi fi systems and speakers, but it really impressed me with the bass, much better than I expected it to.

(Belatedly) in such an acoustically poor environment I don't see the point tbh, but good luck to others that can and do.

I have to agree. I must be a pleb as I can't get excited by sound systems in cars and actually think the standard offering in my S90 is quite good. It certainly is an vast improvement on what Merc provide as standard in my new E Class that made way for the Volvo.
