I think Clan the biggest issue is the journey from factory to dealer, lets face it we end up with enough road stone chips and damaged windscreens, so I doubt it is any better for a new car on a transporter, although now days you do see a few with covers over part of the car to try and help.

I would think that a good percentage come through that route from factory to dealer with a few minor issues and owners won't even know because they've been repaired at the PDI centre. This is probably just minor dings, chips and scratches.

Clan calls this right, if you can see the repair at all, insist the bumper cover is renewed.

Cars get damaged at the factory and you will note the docks all have busy paint shops repairing transit damage before they go on the transporter. So many cars will have been repaired after their initial paint and you would never know, at least your dealer is playing it straight.

Make no mistake, it must be perfect and they are not permitted to over paint part of the front and rear bumpers where the radar is for the Intellisense.

Also when I say perfect, I mean invisible and the same colour as the front bumper, as theyre usually slightly different to the metalwork in some colours, as the base material is a different colour.

Clearly if you can see a repair, then it has not been repaired correctly

We seem to be missing a really important point here:

Does the car have BLIS?

If it does then the bumper should (or is it Must) not be repaired. Volvo spec dictates a new bumper to be fitted.....

I would imagine it will be repaired ok, but what would annoy me is the extra mileage and drivers it will have had before you pick it up.

certainly takes the shine away from collecting your "new" car.

You can pretty much do anything before you sign a takeover.. As I said earlier- if it were a scratch- I would be open to negotiate- but the price would have to go down significantly.. Or some other sort of compensation- a free warranty extension + maintenance- I’d even be willing to accept compensation in accessories- but no way I’d accept a “sorry” and a free paint job..
