Default Fitting a CD player to a 480 Turbo....

Hi all.
My Dad has a 480 Turbo on a `91 J. He wants to ditch the standard cassette player unit and replace it with an aftermarket CD player. The question i have is this-does the 480 on a 1991 have an iso adaptor so the new unit will just plug in and play, or will it require some general DIY wiring/wire cutting? My M plate 440 just plugged into the adapters, but my previous 440 didn`t have them, i had to bodge it myself. Also, will the electric ariel still work? My uncle has a cd player in his 440, and when he switches from CD to Radio, the ariel works respectivly. Any help on this greatly appreciated.

Cheers, Dan.

I don't know about the wiring harness q, but..

If you wire it up right the ariel will should work as normal. As for the ariel going up and down as required, it depends on the radio itself. My Sony MD /Radio HU operated the ariel on my 440 when swithing to or from the radio (so no ariel with MD or CD), but the cheaper one that was fitted originally just operated the ariel when you switched the unit on.

I've just put a radio/cassette in mine, 480 2.0 ES, 1994 and it did have an iso connector. the whole job only took me 15 mins :-)

I fitted a CD player to my '89 480 but someone had already come along and "eaten" all the connections etc and it involved some handy DIY by my brother to get it going! The electric aerial still works but mines not advanced enough to put the aerial down when the radio is off and a CD is on!!

All modern aftermarket head units will give a constant 'aerial up' signal (on a blue wire, according to the ISO standard), as this is also the signal used to trigger extra power amps, which obviously have to be always on, regardless of source.

cheers

Default Fitted, with working ariel...

Hello all...
Thanks for the response, been very helpful. My Dad sorted out the unit-he bought a wiring adapter that also fitted (dare i say it in here, a Nova!)-an Autoleads product. It connected to everything perfectly and it works spot on. And, the added bonus is that the ariel goes up and down, as you flick between radio and CD. So, cheers for the advice.
