MAP/MAF Sensor
1994 850 GLT 2.0ltr 20v Estate. Lambda light came on yesterday when I started the engine at one point and stayed on all day. Checked codes last night and found 1-2-1 on fuel system. MAP/MAF sensor. I unplugged sensor and reconnected - cleared the fault from the system and so far it has not reappeared.
My concern is that I am heading on holiday at the weekend towing a caravan (for the first time-yikes!!). Is this likely to be a one off or is it a sign that the sensor is on the way out. If it does go when on holiday will it do any harm to drive for an extended period with the fault especially when towing. I don't want to incurr expense if its not needed. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks Eric. |

RE: MAP/MAF Sensor
Eric,
I think you need to flip a coin to decide this one. A new MAF sensor wont be cheap, but you dont want your holiday ruined. If the MAF sensor does fail the ecu will overfuel the engine so it shouldnt cause any harm but I'd guess the car wont run too well. All I can suggest is that you run the car a few times before your holls to see if it reoccurs. Make a note of the 10 digit Bosch part number on the sensor and telephone numbers of 'Andrew Page' motor factors (cheapest place in the UK for Bosch parts)that you could get a new sensor from if needed. That is assuming you are staying in the UK. Simon |

RE: MAP/MAF Sensor
Simon,
Thanks for the advice. I have ran the car since and so far there has been no reoccurance. I am not planning traveling too far so think I'll take the risk and wait till the inevitable happens. Eric. |
