Early (Jensen) Scuttle liner
Does anyone know/check their cars?
Early (as in Jensen) 1800s with the cast scuttle vent. It has 8 securing clips as opposed to the later pressed alloy item which has 6. The outer 4 clips are at the same placing but the inner 4(2) are different. My question is the later scuttle liners had cut outs for 6 clips, was there an early scuttle liner with 8 cutouts or are my suspicions correct and a liner wasnt fitted? Russ |

Ref the one shown, one of the liners might also have had a clip at each end, not showing?

That liner is a web pic but similar to the one fitted to my car a 67 which im pretty confident its original to the car. Plus doing a web search comes up with similar type. Its intended to interface with the pressed alloy grill which has three transverse clips connecting to each of the six slots in the liner pictured However, the jensen cast grill has 8 individual clips, 4of which pick up on the later liner slots. The 4 middle slots dont. Im not aware of another type liner that has slots at the end. Every pic ive seen of a liner is a 6 slot one, havent seen an 8 slot one. I also havent seen a liner fitted in conjunction with the cast jensen grill. Hence my question Russ |

The Jensen shows the air intake as part of the heater system. No separate insert and no clips shown. More likely to be a steel sub assembly that is spot welded into the cowl which is actually part of the roof pressing on the Jensen but later cars had separate roof and cowl pressings. It's quite complex and has two drains, one each side which take push on hoses. After another look I find that the intake (weld in) has the same part number for the Jensen and the later cars. Not sure why Volvo decided to fit the plastic liner to the later cars but likely to stop sudden big slashes of water overflowing into the heater. Running through a car wash might also do it. If not already done, retro fitting to Jensen models would be a good idea and Volvo may have issued an update to that effect. Interesting stuff. Anorak off now............

Derek
Thanks, makes sense. Currently working on a couple of Kayaks getting ready for the Spring/Summer season. Decided as part of the fiberglassing stint im going to use the later(mine) liner to take a mould to produce a liner which will have 8 slots |

I have to make the Mould to allow it to split apart☹️
The outlet to the heater inlet is a negative. Not difficult, just more involved. Once the Mould is complete I can run any number off. Will omit any slots which means you can produce either version and with a gelcoat😊 Russ |

Off the wall maybe but is there a role here for silicone rubber, either for the mould or the final article?
