I believe that the tank also has a little filter built in to it and can get blocked, starving the pump.
It may pay to get a new one , if not too much money.
Hopefully some one else can confirm or say otherwise.

Roger.

Hope you good, I am with you on this one dont all 99 and pre run on ATF ? I paid approx £40 a couple of years ago for a gallon as the T5 pump was leaking, filled it up and the leak seemingly disappeared, rarely topped up since.

If you ever need some buddy it is stored in Barrow

I'll investigate fully over the weekend, but rebuild kit is probably a wise idea anyway. The black tank is sat at half way point, which I would guess is the right level. I can not see any current leak anywhere on the car however. And the tank isn't bloated and is the original tank.

I'll check the filter for blockage, but the brass inlet pipe is running freely as you'd expect when you take the cap off. I'll phone Volvo main dealer and ask them if needs be whether it's supposed to be green or red and cross reference with the two specialists within a 50 mil radius.

Well, I did some investigation into this not long back as I had to change the rack on my mums MY2005 v70 as it was leaking, My dad had topped up with ATF so the system was looking a little contaminated so I was in the market for a rack & bought a second hand pump at the time...

My investigation turned out all MY98 & before used ATF & there was a switch over period ~MY99 & onwards but no 100% guarantee that MY99 would use CHF...

Everything suggested the systems on either cars would work perfectly well with either fluid as long as they were not mixed, the mixing of the fluids caused some sort of reaction that blocked/damaged the system.

So I bought a gallon of ATF & her V70 now runs fine with that in the system.... less than £20 apposed to £15 for a litre....

Back to the OP I seem to recall an issue with something coming off the brass nipple in the reservoir & causing a problem with the system.... I will have a quick google & see if I can find it

Right, thanks for the info. I'm going to flush it out and put the green in anyway. I'll see if I can fish out this plastic bit I read about as I just have a brass pipe showing.

Right... I went out. The tank was full according to the dip stick. I could see clear as day the brass pipe in the top corner spewing out power fluid.

I emptied it... see pics for colour... does that look right?

Then I found a black angled pipe at the bottom. Took a bit of popping around but I managed to get it up and back on the brass pipe... see pics.

Does that also look right??
