Default Oldest 245 in the country?

What date was your 240 or 245 registered?

I'm trying to find out the earliest registration date in the UK

My farther used to own an Orange 245 DL in the early 1980's

HAB393N that was registered Jan 1st 1975

indecently If you own the car I can explain how the wiper operating stalk is the shape it is

The DVLA site shows that your fathers old 245 was last taxed in 1996 so sadly the wiper stalk might be the least of its problems. My 240 was registered in March 1990 so definitely not a contender for the oldest. I have a feeling this subject may have already been covered a while back.?? Dave

Wow that is an old'un! Makes my '76 seem positively new! Any chance of some pictures please: does it have the B20 engine by chance? An N-reg one I once owned had the B21 even being that early,so if not an OHC engine yours could be unique in the UK.

Hi, think I saw that advertised, the old owner had spoken with someone from the club at the nec who suggested that there was only one other with that low mileage? Anyone know who had that conversation? I know of another yellow one, 1979 244dl with about 25000miles when I last saw it, that did a lot of showes in the 2009 sort of time. Obviously I assume mileage will have gone up since then, but assume not too much. I have a 1979 244dl in pale blue with 13000 miles. So that’s two others. My next lowest mileage ones have done 45000 miles. Also seen a 264 advertised last year with 14000 miles.

So I think 1975 could be the oldest I have seen in the uk. I also have a 1977 244dl with 59000 miles lol. That’s my oldest.

Anyone else with a very low mileage one?

In a way it's sort of self-defeating looking for a low-mileage car, because as soon as you use it, which unless you are a museum is presumably the point of owning it, you erode the very thing you valued.

I've usually gone to the other extreme - unless it's got at least 200,000 miles on the clock how do you know it's been run in and all the teething problems sorted out?
And then you have to think, a high mileage has probably meant a lifetime of cruising at motorway speeds, engine fully warmed up, cold combustion products all dispersed, whereas a low mileage has probably meant short shopping trips, lots of cold-running, engine oil hardly warmed up, corrosive condensation eating the bores and bearings.

A rule of thumb I invented decades ago was, you can usually reckon on comfortably doubling whatever was the mileage when you bought the car.
So a car that's only done 20,000 miles in thirty years will have problems at 40,000 (see above), whereas my first 240 bought at 220,000 miles went on to reach nearly 450,000 miles on the original clutch and untouched cylinder head.
And quite probably if someone had then bought it and had it rebored it would have gone on to 800,000 miles, as many have.
