Radiator Fan Switch scenario
Hi
just checked the radiator fan switch recently and when I shorted the two pins the fan came into life. Does this mean the switch is U/S ?. The volvo Haynes manual says to turn the ignition on before testing which I Did Not Do. just used the battery. Thanks for any input to clear this. If the answer is YES the switch has gone, any ideas on how to remove from it's awkward position, having of course taken the battery tray off first. I assume that it's a screw thread? |

What kind of 400 is it? If it's a 480 remove the nosecone. Juast unscrew 6 11mm bolts and the 2 brackets behind it. 10min job and you can get at the radiator. But what makes you think the switch is faulty? Engine temp to high, fan won't cut in? The fan should cut in around 100c. If you short the switch you know the wiring and fan are working. From what I understand you took the current directly from the battery, so the ignition switch is out of the circuit.
When asking a Q always write down type, which engine and year so you won't get the wrong answers.
