Default P 1800 Electrical problem

Can anyone help?

After 3 years of standing outside, I managed to get my '67 1800 S to run using fresh 4 star from a petrol can as the supply to the fuel pump. I have done all the obvious earth cleaning, etc. However, if I operate the o/s indicators, the whole thing dies on returning the switch to the middle position, giving me only side lights, but not even a click from the solenoid when I try to restart. I left the car overnight after much fiddling and checking fuses, etc. All ok. On returning the following day and reconecting the battery, it fires up like a new car! I stopped and restarted several times over a 1 hour period. Perfect each time. Then the whole cycle starts again when I do the indicator thing.

I would be so grateful if anyone out there can help me shed some light on this one. It's got me stumped at the moment!
