Default Electrical Gremlins

Hi All, After years of faithful service my '06 XC70 is starting to have electrical gremlins - hopefully not related. If anyone can point me in the right direction...

1. Head Unit - after turning the ignition on the unit lights up but no sound. I'll turn it off. After a time it turns itself on at full volume (not lit up) and then turns off again. While it is 'off' static intermittently comes from speakers. Temporary Solution - remove fuses.

2. Parking Sensors - no longer working front or rear. I can't find the fuse location in the manual to check that first. The button on the centre console no longer working either - (why looking for the fuse)

3. Rear wiper fuse blows if the ignition is turned and the wiper is 'on'. New wiper motor and the wires in the boot hinge are all good.

Thanks

Hello,

The parking sensors system works together with your head unit. If your head unit is disabled or has problems, then your parking sensors will no longer works.

Thanks. Can the sensors affect the stereo or is it the other way round? My sensors starting having problems first.

Wiper motor.
Disconnect the motor and see if it still happens. This should eliminate a short elsewhere in the wiring.
Was the entire assy replaced or just the motor?
What happened to the old motor?
You do know that these wiper spindles seize in the housings and strip the gears if left too long.
My motor has an overload protection that cuts supply if the wipers is stiff. You could hear it clicking back there.

Thanks, I’ll give that a go. It was a whole new assembly as the previous one wasn’t working.

Default Head Unit

I had something similairish in my V70 ('06) - radio would work, crackle, stop working, go stupidly loud then off etc. Seems to be a known problem - sent my unit away to a guy in Essex area and he sorted it.

Some of the joints on the board needing fixing.

You might also try ebay for a replacement unit - mine was not actually coded to the car and the replacement unit I tried first worked but had other issues - hence I sent that back and got mine repaired.

Hopefully getting my stereo out tomorrow to send off for repair. Watched a YouTube video and looks simple.
