Default Transmission performance low

Hi guys

I went to look at a xc90 today, the seller reported that the car was having problems with the transmission.

I connected vida and got the attached error messages

I cleared the error messages and took the car for a drive.

The car was driving fine and changing gears until it started flaring between gears, then came up with a message that transmission performance was low.

I checked vida and it was only displaying this error message.

TCM-012D gear shift function. Wrong gear ratio

The car then would not move...it would not go into gear. Yet the display on the dash was changing from N to D and R.

We switched the car off and on again and the car only went into gear once then dropped out again.

I'm assuming there is an issue with the TCM but not sure what's involved with replacing a tcm and getting it programmed.

Any help would be great.

Thanks

The display on the dash is driven by the gear selector, not the TCM, so that’s a red herring.

I am 99% sure the clutches and/or solenoid valves in the gearbox are knackered. The incorrect ratio errors are derived from the input and output speed sensors in the gearbox and because of the flare or inability to shift the differences have gone out of tolerance.

You might improve it with a fluid change, but if you buy the car it needs to be cheap enough to fund a gearbox overhaul.

Thanks for your reply....I live in Australia and labor is very costly so best to steer away from this deal.
